the happiest place on Earth?
I had a half day at work yesterday. My boyfriend and I both had some things to take care of, but we met up for an early dinner/late lunch Vietnamese bite. Him: “It’s, like, light outside. What do you want to do?” Me: “Let’s go to Disneyland.” So we did. Left L.A. around 7:00pm and got down to Anaheim shortly after 8:00.
We had gone last year on a Saturday, which had been a) crowded, b) hot, c) sort of not totally worth the total effort put into the trip, and d) not especially pleasant. That trip was my first time at any vaguely magical kingdom, and his first trip there since he had been a teenager going with parents.
Last night, we had barely any wait times, and we got to do all the things we didn’t do last year. The Pirates of the Caribbean ride had been under construction last year, so we hit that (really fun), as well as the Haunted Mansion (which I adore), the Indiana Jones thing (kind of bumpy, plus I think my current hip bruises were earned on this ride), etc.
All in all, it was so much fun and exactly what I needed right now. Work’s been go, go, go for the past few weeks, and between after work schmoozing/events, birthday parties, reminding friends that I exist through drinks, I’ve been kind of a wreck. So, Disneyland was a kickass start to this long weekend.
. . . Or, as I’m calling it, the vacation before the vacation. I leave for Europe on Thursday night.
the great package race
The Great Package Race is my favorite thing since last night when my favorite thing was that the $2 cervesa of the day at happy hour included Pyramid Hefeweizen. Honestly, I am not remotely surprised that DHL won the competition. I have the best luck with them since FedEx refuses to believe that the giant freaking studio where I work is a real mappable place, and UPS likes to think that 2 days equal 6. (Via Consumerist.)
Also, through my office’s corporate discount, it costs me like $3.50 to overnight to the East Coast. I intensely love that. Though. DHL and I have had words before, don’t get me wrong.
Yosemite
I’m going to Yosemite on mini-vay tomorrow, back sometime on Sunday. There’s very little planned for this trip. I have somewhere to stay, but otherwise I haven’t worked out any of the details. I really know very little about the park, and, at this point, I err on the side of figuring it out when I get there.
I finished a long-term project around lunchtime. I cleaned. my. desk.
my new toy
I really enjoy office supplies. My favorite new thing is my pen holder, which I have adhered to the bottom of my monitor at work. I really barely use a pen; at the most, I scrawl out a post-it. I have quite a number of pens around and stuff, but I usually want to use the exact same one I last used. There’s something about having the nub (nub?) just perfect and ready to go. So anyway. In my last supplies order, I got this Klick Fix pen holder ($2 before your company’s discount). You, whoever you are, should have one. p. 734 of the Concerto/Office Max 2007 supplies catalog.
the silence

I moved down the hall at work.
The previous tenant of my office had the lights disabled due to his being a vampire bat or something. The lights are super bright, and they bounce off the super white walls. I’m possibly going snowblind. I could use posters. And not so much of our product.
The music is now louder, which is nice. My television has yet to be hooked up, so I am not enjoying the crawl at this time.
It’s surprisingly lonely down here. People should visit more.
beaucoup de freaking food baskets

Rather than simply sending holiday cards, many of the vendors we use at work have been sending fairly elaborate gifts. I find the quality of products surprisingly high given the number of studios these vendors must serve. I’ve received really lovely candles and leather goods (including what googles as a “man’s catchall,” you know, since I am manly*).
However, we’ve also been inundated with sweets. One of my co-workers was sent three (3) lbs. of Godiva chocolates. Another office of the company which sent me my man gift sent my group three dozen (36) cupcakes.
There have been three office holiday parties so far. I’m so sick of rich food.
*Said man’s catchall is from my post-production house. Chicks don’t work with video?
