things I have enjoyed in the last week
to read:
- The Strange Adventures of Rangergirl by Tim Pratt
- A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin, which was even yummier on the re-read
to watch:
- Casino Royale, which so mostly got it right
- TV and I are on a break
- I keep seeing movies I end up hating, too. It’s not intentional.
to listen:
- Guns N’ Roses, whom I saw in concert on Sunday and whom I shall be seeing again tonight. yes, really. and yes, it was a good show. and yes, Axl showed up. and no, they didn’t seem old and sad. and yes, I did enjoy most of the new material. and yes, why I do totally have a thing for Robin Finck, thanks for asking.
- I decided it was time I learned the back catalog of the Rolling Stones.

I moved down the hall at work.
The previous tenant of my office had the lights disabled due to his being a vampire bat or something. The lights are super bright, and they bounce off the super white walls. I’m possibly going snowblind. I could use posters. And not so much of our product.
The music is now louder, which is nice. My television has yet to be hooked up, so I am not enjoying the crawl at this time.
It’s surprisingly lonely down here. People should visit more.

My first grade teacher at Booker T. Washington Elementary School organized the “Try It, You’ll Like It!” Club.
While my hobbies including bossiness and telling people I was going to be the leader, I was really not a very prominent member of the organization. I was the pickiest eater ever. I not only didn’t like the proverbial it, I sure didn’t try it either.
This resulted in my expulsion from the club.
I am not what one could call an adventurous eater, per se, now. But my tastes and palate have dramatically matured in the last year or so. I will generally try new things now. Such as potatoes: it turns out that potatoes really do taste like fries even though they look crazy different.
A friend and co-worker recently introduced me to this condiment that completely changes the taste of food. It’s this stuff called mustard. Blows my mind. I’ve even stopped putting wasabi on sandwiches in favor of dijon.

Rather than simply sending holiday cards, many of the vendors we use at work have been sending fairly elaborate gifts. I find the quality of products surprisingly high given the number of studios these vendors must serve. I’ve received really lovely candles and leather goods (including what googles as a “man’s catchall,” you know, since I am manly*).
However, we’ve also been inundated with sweets. One of my co-workers was sent three (3) lbs. of Godiva chocolates. Another office of the company which sent me my man gift sent my group three dozen (36) cupcakes.
There have been three office holiday parties so far. I’m so sick of rich food.
*Said man’s catchall is from my post-production house. Chicks don’t work with video?
